MSC Select & Academy Season Highlights
Below are some of the highlights from our Select teams’ Spring Seasons
2009 Girls Elite – GA State Champions
Our 09 Girls Elite team made history this past weekend by becoming the first team from Macon Soccer Club to ever win a State Championship! The girls qualified to the final match after earning 2 wins in the Elite 4 Group State against All-In FC Sugar Hill (2-0) and Savannah United (1-0). The final match against GA Impact was played at MOBA's Stadium in Peachtree City. Our Girls had most of the possession and saw a lot more opportunities to score than their opponent. However, the solely goal of the match had to wait until the 17th minute of the 2nd half, when Edy Powell cracked a shot from 20 yards that hit the crossbar, and then followed up on her own shot to gather the rebound and place the ball out of their goalkeepers reach and into the net. The team played some amazing defense, winning many balls on the attacking third by pressuring high and disarming any attacks before becoming a danger, while the back line became an unpenetrated wall, that was only beat by long balls over their heads that were always under the control by the team's GK (Mary Marshall) who stepped of her line to gather them. The team will represent GA Soccer at Southern Regionals in Murfreesboro, TN this June. Congratulations to Coach Tony E. and these superb group of players on their amazing accomplishment and best of luck in Regionals!
2009 Boys Elite – Georgia Premier League Champions
After an amazing first season in Select last Fall, where the boys earned promotion to Georgia's Premier League for finishing in first place in the Championship with an undefeated record of 10-0-0, the boys didn't stop and took GPL by storm!! Setting an unprecedented accomplishment of winning back-to-back titles, the boys won GPL with another undefeated season. Although GPL presented a higher level of competition as expected, the team took on the challenge head on and finished with a record of 7-0-3 and earning a total of 41 points (2 points ahead of 2nd place team). This nailbiter run for the title came down to the last game of the season, and literally the last minute of it as well! The last game of the season played this past Sunday (5/15) saw the boys playing against GA Storm, who sat 2 points behind our team in the standings. A win or a tie will secure the title for our boys, however GA Storm was on the lead (2-1) until the last minute of the game, when the boys earned a free-kick on the side of the box and the cross was connected with a towering header that gave the boys the tie and the championship! The boys will be representing GA Soccer in the National League next season. Congratulations to the Coach Mathew Fuller and these amazing group of young boys on this achievement and best of luck in National League next season!
