Rec Coaching with MSC
Philosophy:
Macon Soccer Club's rec program is a community focused program where the focus is on having fun, and learning the fundamentals of the game. Our rec program relies on volunteers to coach our teams and to provide the sort of environment where children and love for the game can thrive. To that end, we ask that our volunteer coaches ensure equal playing time for all players and focus less on winning matches and more on the develop of the children and the team. To that end, we ask that our coaches run practice sessions that minimize standing in line and follow instead a play-practice-play approach. Through play-practice-play, soccer skills are learned in game play environments where standing in line behind cones to execute a skill does not occur. Rather, players engage in game-link scenarios where such things as proper passing, shooting, and dribbling technics are taught on the fly. Such an approach keeps children active, engaged, and enables them to learn skills in realistic situations.
Coaching Resources:
To meet these goals, Macon Soccer Club has available a number of coaching resources, including written practice plans available on the playmetrics app. Rec Directors are always available to answer coaching questions and to assist coaches who may not be experienced or may be struggling for practice ideas. Additionally, on August 23 there will be a Coaches Meeting and Training Session, where Club leadership will not only discuss the Rec Coaching philosophy, but will also run demonstrative practice sessions for coaches to utilize and implement.
Coaching Incentives:
Beginning in Fall 2024, the Club is also implementing a two tier coaching compensation system offering a $10 discount if you sign up to be a coach in the Macon Soccer Rec Program. Also, if you attend our August 23 Coaches Meeting and Training Session you will get an additional $20 credit to be applied to future registrations in recognition of not just your services, but your commitment to our Coaching Philosophy. Finally, coaches will be able to choose their practice night, though this is only while slots are available, so Sign up today to ensure you get to pick the night that you want.

Rec Coaching FAQs
How do I get my practice night?
Once the process of creating teams has begun, we email a link where coaches can sign up for their preferred practice night.
How do I select players for my team?
In our Recreational program, teams are created by our staff based on rec assessments to ensure balance and fairness across all teams.
Where can I find practice plans for my coach?
Our app, PlayMetrics, offers a wide variety of practice plans and resources for coaches. You can also find great ideas on websites like YouTube and USSoccer.com
My child's coach needs some help. How do I go about assisting them?
There are lots of ways to support your child’s coach! Start by offering encouragement and helping at practices when possible. If more help is needed, reach out to us (the board) via PlayMetrics—we’re happy to step in and provide additional support.
I am a coach who wants to coach the same kids I had last year. How do I do that?
That’s not how our recreational program works. To keep teams fair and balanced, players and coaches are reshuffled each season. If you’re interested in working with the same group of players over a longer period, we encourage you to consider moving up to the academy level of our program.
I would like to coach one of MSC's Academy or Select teams. How do I apply?
